The Goals Database
Bio-based / Renewable Materials
By 2025, 100% of McDonald’s guest packaging will come from renewable, recycled or certified sources.
Renewable / Alternative Energy
We support a shared mission to increase access to cost-competitive renewable energy across the McDonald’s US system. In 2014, the McDonald’s company-owned restaurants and franchisees in Europe purchased 76% of their electricity from renewable sources across 21 markets, 10 of which have achieved or are working toward purchasing 100% renewable electricity. McDonald’s U.K. has committed for a 20-year period to purchase renewable energy directly from new infrastructure.
In the U.S., we operate an environmental sustainability program, US 20×2020 By Design. The program aims to reduce energy and water by 20% by 2020, using innovative strategies in the design of new restaurants. These include LED lighting, low oil-volume fryers, high-efficiency hand dryers, toilets and faucets, and low-spray valves.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions
The Company will partner with Franchisees to reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to McDonald’s restaurants and offices by 36% by 2030 from a 2015 base year. Through collaboration and partnership with our suppliers and producers, the Company also commits to a 31% reduction in emissions intensity (per metric ton of food and packaging) across our supply chain by 2030 from 2015 levels.
