The Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) is excited to announce the launch of its newest working group, the Consumer Education Collaborative. The new Collaborative will support SPC members’ efforts to educate consumers around recycling and key sustainable packaging topics.
The Consumer Education Collaborative is now open for SPC members to sign up ahead of the Collaborative’s kickoff call on April 9, 2026.
What SPC’s Consumer Education Collaborative Will Deliver
While the vast majority of consumers support recycling, the packaging industry has spent years grappling with the intention-action gap — the reality that most consumers want to shop sustainably and recycle, yet they often face barriers preventing truly sustainable actions. SPC’s new Consumer Education Collaborative will help break down these barriers with comprehensive, scalable education tools for members. Together, we’ll empower consumers with the tools they need to cut through sustainability confusion and recycle correctly.
The Collaborative will deliver plug-and-play, data-driven consumer education resources through the following initial workstreams:
- Developing education modules for school-age children to build early habits around recycling, reuse, composting, and understanding packaging materials
- Supporting the How2Recycle Forward consumer education campaign designed to get consumers to recognize and understand How2Recycle labels on-pack
- Creating media toolkits with ready-to-use marketing assets that members can use in their own digital, in-store, and community-facing sustainability education efforts
Working closely with brands, packaging suppliers, and key industry stakeholders, together we’ll translate years of consumer research into educational tools that drive lasting behavior change.
Sign up for the Collaborative today to join our kickoff call on April 9, 2026.
