AgRecycle, Inc.
Carla Castagnero is co-founder and President of AgRecycle, Inc., Pennsylvania’s largest sourceseparated composting operation, headquartered in Pittsburgh. AgRecycle was the first company to be issued a Pennsylvania general permit for composting, allowing organic materials from the residual, municipal, and agricultural waste streams to be composted jointly. AgRecycle was founded in 1991, and has been actively composting food residuals since 1998. AgRecycle has been providing hauling services and containers for food scrap collection since 2007, and has been a pioneer in accepting certified compostable products, starting in 2008. Carla has received degrees from Columbia University and Duquesne University. She was the recipient of Rodale Institute’s Organic Pioneer Award in 2013.
