Education and Outreach

As part of the SPC's education and outreach, it holds several in-person and online meetings and educational events a year. The SPC believes it will require collaboration throughout the supply chain to affect the change needed to realize sustainable packaging. As a result, the SPC continually looks for opportunities to advance its mission through participation in and hosting of conferences and meetings.

COMPASS® (Comparative Packaging Assessment) is the Sustainable Packaging Coalition's design evaluation tool that helps packaging professionals consider environmental profiles of packaging during the early design steps. Learn how life cycle assessment (LCA) can be easily integrated into design workflow to benchmark existing packaging portfolio and track sustainability progress.

Packaging provides opportunities to convey a wide range of information about the product, safety, regulations, health and nutrition to customers. The Sustainable Packaging Coalition has developed a package label called The How2Recycle Label that provides clear actionable messaging to consumers as to what recycling steps they can take to optimize material recovery for various materials and packaging components once the useful life is reached.

The Essentials of Sustainable Packaging is a one day professional development course offering a comprehensive introduction to packaging sustainability through a lifecycle approach. The course has been taught in the US, Canada, Hong Kong, China, and Mexico. It provides an opportunity for packaging professionals to interact with others in different sectors to learn the key issues, available tools, and trends in sustainability related to packaging activities.

In today's interconnected global marketplace, the hazards associated with material usage in product and package design can be difficult to assess. The key indicators associated with material health can alter the long term viability of products, yet the information is difficult to attain. Material IQ is a marketplace for all material suppliers to share chemical and material health information across industry sectors. Learn how this information can inform decision choices to help develop better and safer products and packaging.

We look forward to seeing you there, and encourage you to stop by the SPC booth (N-5823) located near The Brand Zone. Current SPC members are encouraged to reach out to the SPC if they have booths.
