Education and Outreach

As part of the SPC's education and outreach, it holds several in-person and online meetings and educational events a year. The SPC believes it will require collaboration throughout the supply chain to affect the change needed to realize sustainable packaging. As a result, the SPC continually looks for opportunities to advance its mission through participation in and hosting of conferences and meetings.

SPC November Open Forum-Achieving Economic and Environmental Results Through By-Product Synergy

Wednesday, November 30
11:00 am - 12:00 pm EST

By-Product Synergy (BPS) is the matching of wastes and under-utilized resources at one facility with potential users at another – the results include reductions in operating costs, improved environmental performance, increases in energy efficiency, reductions in CO2 emissions, and job creation and retention. The US BCSD has developed a repeatable process for the successful launch and operation of BPS in regional markets across the county and is now working to create a national network in which each of the regional markets are linked. Our approach to BPS results in quantifiable economic, environmental and societal benefits for not only the participating companies but also the communities in which they are located. This presentation will give an overview of BPS, provide several examples of synergies which have been developed through the BPS process, and describe how companies can participate in the network.
