Recycling rates have stagnated in recent years. Consumer participation in recycling programs – both at the curbside and on-the-go – is an essential component in creating convenient systems for packaging materials.
National nonprofit Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (kab.org) is addressing the consumer participation issue through infrastructure (more bins), awareness-building events such as America Recycles Day, and an upcoming national social marketing and behavior change campaign aimed at encouraging
Americans to recycle more.
On July 21, KAB Senior Vice President of Recycling Ed Skernolis and Vice President of Communications Rob Wallace who will discuss these initiatives. They will offer ways that SPC members and supporters can get involved in America Recycles Day (11.15.11), a nationally-recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating
recycling, and Social marketing, a partnership of KAB, the U.S. EPA, Earth911 and the Ad Council to develop a multi-media, multi-touch campaign to address perceptual and behavioral barriers and create a national recycling “call to action."

Brenda joined KAB in October 2010 to support national efforts to increase recycling participation. In her role she is responsible for the overall development, execution and expansion of the America Recycles Day Program. In addition to providing support to KAB’s other recycling campaigns and programs, Brenda is charged with outreach to Washington-based stakeholders of interest to KAB including policy makers, and trade association and NGO representatives. In this role she is responsible for identifying and developing strategies for key policy issues of interest to KAB, its mission and members. Prior to joining KAB, Brenda served as the Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications for the world’s largest aluminum rolling and recycling company, Novelis. Brenda has worked on various energy and environmental issues both in corporations and trade associations for nearly 30 years, starting her career working for the U.S. House of Representatives, Energy and Environment Small Business Committee.
Rob Wallace joined KAB in the summer of 2005, and is responsible for directing all internal and external communications efforts including KAB brand development, public relations, media outreach and communications partnerships.
Formerly the principal/president of Meteormedia Communications, an award-winning Connecticut digital advertising agency, and VP/Creative Director at New York's Grubard Marketing, Rob graduated from the University of Maryland with a M.A. in Communications Design and a B.S. in Corporate Communication.
