Education and Outreach

As part of the SPC's education and outreach, it holds several in-person and online meetings and educational events a year. The SPC believes it will require collaboration throughout the supply chain to affect the change needed to realize sustainable packaging. As a result, the SPC continually looks for opportunities to advance its mission through participation in and hosting of conferences and meetings.

The M&S Model Forest Programme – The Sustainable Future

With less than 10% of all the worlds forest certified through accreditation schemes (such as FSC) responsible forestry is a very important consideration in procurement operations, however accreditation alone may not give a clear indication of the sustainability of your purchasing decisions. The scope of the M&S Model Forest Programme covers a number of sustainability metrics through from forestry operations through to printer or converter stage, ensuring that purchasing decisions can be based on the right sustainability measures. It is all about rewarding suppliers who are “doing the right thing.”

Appointed in 2007, Andrew joined Marks & Spencer as a Packaging Buyer for the Food Group. Previous experiences in a number of packaging related roles, in branded and non-branded food businesses, has given Andrew a rounded view of the global packaging industry. Since joining, Andrew has driven the M&S Plan A sustainable packaging commitments to the current high levels, ensuring high performance reporting standards for our How We Do Business CSR report. He leads the foods packaging sustainable sourcing strategy, ensuring that key materials are available today and for the future. Andrew also supports the external communications of our progress, engaging with National and Local Government in the UK along with WRAP and other key stakeholders.
